Knights Tie Sea Lions 1-1

SAN DIEGO – Academy of Art women's soccer tied with Point Loma by a score of 1-1 on Saturday afternoon at PLNU Soccer Field.

The Urban Knights' goal came from senior forward Anissa Wilson, who reached double-digit goals on her 10th of the season. With less than one minute to play in the first half, ART U was on the attack, pressing into the Sea Lion's penalty box, when a hand-ball occurred. Wilson was called upon to take the penalty kick and she did not disappoint. She buried the ball in the bottom left corner for a 1-0 lead.

A dramatic moment transpired in the 57th minute when PLNU was awarded a penalty kick of their own. Forward Julia Glaser was chosen to take the shot by the Sea Lions. Glaser went right, as did junior goalkeeper Lara Pflicke. Arms extended, fully horizontal, Pflicke got her hands on the ball and came up with the save to keep PLNU off the board. The rebound was cleared and the threat was contained. Pflicke had saved the match.

The save on the penalty kick became even more crucial when the Sea Lions found the net in the 68th minute. Glaser was the one who equalized, by firing a left footed shot from the top of the penalty box barely over Pflicke's reach and into the upper netting to tie the match at one.

The match would stay there thanks to excellent goalkeeping from Pflcike, who fended off 33 shots and notched eight saves en route to the tie. Point Loma was undefeated in PacWest play prior to the match.

Following the tie, Academy of Art moves to 5-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in conference for a total of four points. Point Loma moves to 4-0-1 in conference as ART U becomes the first team not to lose to the Sea Lions in PacWest play. The Urban Knights return to the Bay for their next match against Holy Names on Tuesday, Oct. 22 with a kickoff slated for 10:30 a.m.
