HILO, Hawaii – In their final match of the season, Academy of Art battled to the final minute, but fell 3-0 to UH Hilo on Thursday night at UHH Soccer Field. The 2019 women's soccer team ends their season with an overall record of 7-8-3 and a conference record of 3-6-2 for 11 points, good for an eighth place finish in the PacWest. Seven wins is tied with the 2012 women's soccer team for the second most wins in a single-season in program history. Â
ART U's first shot was taken by junior midfielder
Reyna Valencia in the 21st minute but missed high and wide. One minute later UH Hilo got on the board with a goal from Nanea Wall, assisted by Bailey Cahill. The Urban Knights finished off the half strong defensively and kept the Vulcans lead at one.Â
UHH stuck again shortly after the second half began, in the 50th minute, this time off the foot of Brenna Rill. They added one more goal in the 59th minute, Wall's second of the match, to take a demanding 3-0 lead. Junior midfielder
Sydney Cooke had a good opportunity one minute after the goal, but her shot missed slightly high. The Vulcans' defense remained solid and kept ART U scoreless the remainder of the match, forcing them to drop a 3-0 decision. Despite the three goals, junior goalkeeper Lara Pflcike registered a season-high 12 saves in her return to the pitch.Â
As the 2019 season concludes, Academy of Art looks ahead to an off-season of development and hard work in preparation for next year.Â
