Combining versatility and many years of collegiate experience, the Academy of Art University men's basketball program finds itself on the verge of the 2019-20 season, its first under the direction of new head coach
Scott Waterman. This Friday, ART U opens with contests versus the California Collegiate Athletic SF State and Sonoma State on back-to-back days in the PacWest/CCAA Challenge hosted by Dominican in San Rafael.
On the path in front of the Urban Knights is a 29-game schedule for 2019-20 campaign including 13 home games, a pair of tournaments, and seven non-conference contests. For a more in-depth look at the 2019-20 schedule,

On a roster heavy with upperclassmen, senior guards
Victor Ruiz de Carranza,
Chance Maxwell, and
Nemanja Kovacevic will join senior forward
Tim Graham for their respective final collegiate seasons. Ruiz de Carranza averaged 26.8 minutes per game last year, the most of any returning player, and led the team with 35 steals while adding 14 blocks and 6.5 rebounds per game (both second-most on the squad).
The largest junior class in program history features three returners and a host of fresh faces. Redshirt juniors guard
Dante Williams and forward
Luka Radovic plus guard
Stefan Milivojevic bring back numerous years of experience as well as important scoring, rebounding, and distribution ability. New to the team in 2019-20 will be guards
Joshua Bagley,
Monte Lambert,
Jalen Lovett, and
Kai Tease plus forwards
Josh Hill and
Adrian Byrd-Jelinek. One of several proven scorers coming in, Tease was All-Conference and All-Region at Blinn College previously.
Emphasizing preparation, focus, and execution, Academy of Art opens its 2019-20 this Friday versus SF State in the PacWest/CCAA Challenge.
