2019 Bay Area Invitational Final Results
SAN FRANCISCO -- Battling rain and wind, Academy of Art men's golf concluded their first tournament of the spring with a 10th place finish at the Bay Area Invitational Tuesday at TCP Harding Park.
"Overall I think the tournament went well," said head coach
Andy Moren. "A lot of positives to take away, they played a stellar second round and they did a lot of good things the first and third round."
Sophomore
Matthew Watkins held the top score for ART U with a 223 overall to end tied for 24th. Watkins shot an 80 in round three, but led the entire field of players with two eagles and led the Knights in birdies with nine. His best round came on day two, when he shot the second lowest round of the day with a 70 (-2).
Senior
Oskar Frick had the second highest Urban Knight finish, tied for 30th after shooting a 74, 72, 79. His 72 (E) was the second best round among all Urban Knights. Juniors
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc and
Otto Homruen both shot a 76 on the final day to end the tournament with an identical cumulative score of 227. Manotoc shot third best in the tournament on par-3's (E) and Homruen captured more pars than anyone in the field with 42.

Senior
Lawrence Liang was the final ART U scorer, shooting a 78 in the third round to end with a cumulative score of 230. Senior
Jose Lopez Butron got better and better as the tournament progressed. The senior from Mexico improved two strokes each day to shoot a 79 by his final day despite the subpar conditions. Â
No. 6 Western Washington emerged as the team champion while Sonoma State's Devin Gregg claimed the individual title after the lowest round of the tournament, 67 (-5), on day three to end with a cumulative score of 210 (-6).
"It's unfortunate the last round we got off to such a rocky start, and in such bad weather conditions it's tough to bring it back," said Moren."I think they fought hard. The finish isn't what we were hoping for but we will move forward to Notre Dame de Namur."
After hosting the Bay Area Invitational the Urban Knights will be back in action March 11-12 at the NDNU Invitational in Livermore, California.
