Hanny Stanislaus Invitational Final Results
TURLOCK, Calif. -- Academy of Art improved 13 strokes on their second round score with solid performances all around to climb one spot in the standings for an eighth place finish at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational Tuesday at Turlock Country Club. The Urban Knights shot a 290 as a team in the final round to end with a cumulative score of 881 led by sophomore
Matthew Watkins' 10th place finish.
"The guys overall had a very rare solid performance," said head coach
Andy Moren. "We are continually showing improvements throughout the lineup, which has been exciting. Everyone contributed throughout the course of the tournament and it was nice to see Matt have a consistent performance."
Watkins shot his best round of the tournament on the final day with a 71 (-1) including five birdies to improve two strokes on his first two rounds. Behind Watkins, tied for 30th with a cumulative score of 220 was senior
Lawrence Liang who finished the day at par with a score of 72. Liang improved eight strokes on his round two performance and had a consistent day, hitting par on 10-of-18 holes and birdied on 4-of-18. Junior
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc finished 32nd after shooting a 73 (+1) in the final round and one stroke behind Liang cumulatively. Senior
Oskar Frick rounded out the scorers with a 74 (+2) for a total score of 225, good for the 48th spot. In the final position for the Urban Knights was junior
Otto Homruen who finished the day in the 55th overall spot after a 76 (+4) in the third round.
"It feels like we are starting to gain some momentum at the right time," commented Moren. "We are all looking forward to competing again next week."
ART U will look ahead to the Mustang Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz., the final event before the PacWest Conference Championship. The Mustang Intercollegiate will take place on Monday, April 8 and Tuesday, April 9.
