GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Coming off a historic day one at the Mustang Intercollegiate, sophomore
Matthew Watkins continued to play stellar golf and finished fourth with a 206 (-10), tied for the best score in Academy of Art men's golf program history with senior
Oskar Frick. Watkins shot a 72 (E) on the final day at Palm Valley Golf Club and added another three birdies to end the tournament with 13 total and lead ART U to a ninth place finish with a combined score of 854.
"We are all very proud of Matt's performance this week," said head coach
Andy Moren. "We all knew he was capable of playing this well, but I think it was very important that he was proved it to himself."
Improving a whopping five strokes on his round two performance was junior
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc who finished with an exceptional 69 (-3) in the third round. His cumulative score of 212 (-4) was good to tie for the 19th spot. Coming in third for ART U was Frick who shot a 76 (+4) on the final day to end tied for 54th. Rounding out the scorers for the Urban Knights was senior
Lawrence Liang who ended with a 73 (+1) for a cumulative score of 223. Junior
Otto Homruen finished one stroke behind Liang after shooting a 73 (+1).
"I am very proud of everyone's performances this week," said Moren. "Gabe and Oskar played great all week and Lawrence and Otto contributed some nice rounds. I have been saying we are gaining momentum and we are doing it at the right time. We are looking forward to conference in a couple weeks."

With the end regular season play the Urban Knights will look ahead to the PacWest Conference Championships at the Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Ariz. starting Monday April, 22.
