SAN DIEGO – Though Academy of Art women's soccer was able to remain level with Point Loma through the first half on Saturday, a quick pair of second-half goals would help PLNU snag a Pacific West Conference win, 2-0.
Controlling much of the first half was the Sea Lions (6-0-1, 2-0-0 PacWest), putting up five shots to the one of the Urban Knights (1-3-2, 0-2-0 PacWest) and prompting ART U sophomore goalkeeper
Nicole Peoples to make three saves. Taking the lone first-half shot for the Knights was senior midfielder
Sydney Cooke, putting it just over the frame of net.
Both offenses stepped up in the second period, and while ART U was able to launch a total of four shots in the frame, it was Point Loma who was able to convert on a pair of their chances. The two strikes would come about 12 minutes apart from each other, with Alana Diaz tallying an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute, while Courtney Seman found the net in the 65th on assists from both Maura Sovde and Emma Thrapp.
Three of the Urban Knights' five shots in the match were on target in the second half, coming in the form of one apiece from senior forward
Veronica Rodriguez, junior midfielder
Baylie Christensen, and freshman midfielder
Zineb Ighirri. Peoples would end with seven saves on 14 shots faced.
With its Southern California road trip complete, ART U will return to San Francisco in preparation of their next PacWest match scheduled against UH Hilo on Oct. 8 at 10 a.m.
