2021 Bay Area Invitational Results Rounds 1&2

HAYWARD, Calif. – Academy of Art men's golf teed off the season on a hot start on Monday, as junior Matthew Watkins leads the individual portion at 3-under par 141 while the Urban Knights lead the team leaderboard at 24-over-par 600 after two rounds of action at the Bay Area Invitational from TPC Stonebrae Country Club. 

Watkins turned in the best round of the day in round one with a 4-under-par 68, sinking six birdies that included four on the back nine as his performance helped the Urban Knights to tie for the tournament lead along with Dominican at 16-over-par 304. Teammate and fellow junior Julius Kreutzer found three birdies of his own, chipping in a round of 3-over-par 75. 

Kreutzer continued the momentum into round two for the Urban Knights, when he recorded a 2-under-par 70 for the best score of the second round. Along with Watkins' 1-over-par 73 effort, the duo powered ART U to best their round one score by collaborating for a 8-over-par 296. The round included a pair of eagles for the Urban Knights, with Watkins getting his first on the 12th hole before Kreutzer followed suit with one of his own on the 14th. 

The duo sit atop the leaderboard, as Watkins covers the pole position with a 3-under-par 141 while Kreutzer sits tied for second at one-over-par 145 along with Luke Dugger of Holy Names. Senior Otto Homruen can also be found in the top-10 on the leaderboard with a 10-over-par 154, with his best effort coming in round two when he found four birdies en route to a 2-over-par 74.  With a total of six on the day, Homruen is currently tied for sixth in birdies along with Kreutzer, while Watkins' 10 birdies leads all players. 

ART U will look to fend off second place Holy Names, as the Hawks sit just four strokes behind with a 28-over-par 604 as the Bay Area Invitational gets set to begin round three on Tuesday.
