2020 Pioneer Shootout Results (Day One)

ALAMEDA, Calif. – A solid opening round on the links for Academy of Art men's golf has them sitting in third place at the Pioneer Shootout, as the Urban Knights combined to shoot a 14-over-par 302 at Chuck Corica Golf Complex. Two Urban Knights find themselves tied for spots inside the top-10, led by senior Otto Homruen in seventh place along with two others at 2-over-par 74. 

Four birdies during the round helped Homruen keep pace with current overall team-leader Sonoma State, as the Seawolves have all four of their golfers within the top-10 of the tournament leaderboard. Also chasing after Sonoma State is ART U junior Julius Kreutzer, coming off of back-to-back tournament victories, who is part of the tie for 10th place at 3-over-par 75 after also dropping four birdies. Together ART U totaled 12 birdies, along with an eagle from senior Gabriel De Leon Manotoc on the 15th hole, helping them sit towards the front of a crowded field that sees second and sixth places separated by no more than nine strokes. 

Rounding out the scoring for the Urban Knights is De Leon Manotoc, tied for 15th after his late eagle propelled him to card a 4-over-par 76, while junior Matthew Watkins falls one stroke behind in a tie for 17th place at 5-over-par 77. Along with Homruen and Kreutzer, Watkins turned in four birdies during his round, including one on both the first and 18th holes. As a team, ART U finds themselves 14 shots back of the Seawolves, who cruised from the pack by finishing at even-par 288 as a squad. 

Round two of the Pioneer Shootout will conclude from Chuck Corica Golf Complex beginning tomorrow at 8:44 a.m.
