Kreutzer Leads Pack While Knights Currently Third

2021 Sonoma State Invitational (Round One)

SANTA ROSA, Calif. –
The best round of the 2021 campaign from Academy of Art men's golf junior Julius Kreutzer has put him in sole possession of first place at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational, as he carded a 5-under-par 67 at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club on Monday. As a unit, ART U combined to shoot a 5-under-par 283, just four stokes off the tournament lead.

Posting the best combined par-3 score (2-under) and tying for the second most birdies (6), Kreutzer currently holds a two stroke lead over three challengers tied for second place. However, Kreutzer is not the only Urban Knight in the top-5, as fellow junior Matthew Watkins is tied for fifth after he turned in a 3-under-par 69 thanks to four birdies, including one on the 18th hole to finish his round. Senior Gabriel De Leon Manotoc was one of eight players to end day one at even-par 72, while rounding out the scoring for ART U was senior Otto Homruen at 3-over-par in a tie for 28th place.

It's a tight race for first place in the team portion, as Cal State East Bay is the current leader at 9-under-par 279 while host Sonoma State occupies second place at 6-under-par 282. The Sonoma State Spring Invitational will conclude tomorrow with tee times beginning at 8:10 a.m.
