SURPRISE, Ariz. – Finishing a grueling stretch of four matches in four days under the Arizona sun, No. 24 Academy of Art women's tennis was topped by Point Loma 4-1 in the Pacific West Conference Championship Tournamnet consolation bracket at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex on Saturday.
A 6-3 win came for sophomores
Sofia Ragona and
Yun "Nicole" Shiau in the top doubles position against Gabi Armas and Angelique Frederich, but the opening point would go to the Sea Lions after they captured 6-2 results in the second and third slots.
In singles action, Point Loma moved up 2-0 with a win in the fifth spot, but freshman
Aitana Comas Adam got the seventh-seeded Urban Knights (5-7) on the scoreboard with a straight-sets win over Faith Pearson on the fourth court. Though Ragona was two games from earning a three-set triumph over Frederich in the first singles pairing, wins in the sixth and second positions ended up sealing the 4-1 result for PLNU.
