Fall 2021 Sonoma State Men's Invite (Final Results)
SANTA ROSA, Calif. – Saving the best for last at the Sonoma State Men's Invitational, Academy of Art men's golf posted its lowest combined round score of the tournament with a 22-over-par 302, finishing the tournament in 11th place at 77-over-par 917. Meanwhile, junior
Matthew Watkins claimed the best individual ART U finish at 23rd place, ending his first action at 11-over-par 221.
The final round for Watkins included an eagle on the 14th hole before subsequently dropping a birdie on 15, as he was one of only seven players to collect an eagle over the course of the tournament. Before the round was over Watkins would find one more birdie, ending the tournament with a total of nine. Finishing further back in the pack was a trio of Urban Knights led by incoming freshman
Ralph Kho, who tied for 51st in his first collegiate action at 19-over-par 229 with seven total birdies. Just behind him was fellow newcomer freshman
Anson Pan, closing the tournament in a tie for 54th place at 19-over-par 229, while closing out the scoring was freshman
Jack DeBenedetti in a tie for 67th at 26-over-par 236.
Claiming victory in the team portion was Cal State San Marcos, which shot a combined even-par 280 in the final round to come-from-behind and claim the victory. The Cougars would also boast the competition's individual winner in Matthew Moss, taking first place by four strokes with a 7-under-par 203.
Academy of Art will have nearly a full month off before its next action, as the Knights will take part in the Wildcat Classic in Corning, Calif. beginning on Monday, Oct. 11.
