Knights Control Match But End Level With Simpson

REDDING, Calif. – While Academy of Art controlled play throughout its match with Simpson on Monday, both goalkeepers would keep the contest with zeroes on the scoreboard at the end of 90 minutes as the two teams played to a scoreless draw, the second of the season for ART U.

It was primarily the Urban Knights (0-1-2) that were in control on the day, totaling 21 shots and nearly-tripling the eight by the Red Hawks (1-3-1). Though Simpson put all of their looks on goal, ART U would still hold the edge in that category with 12 of their own, six coming from the pair of freshmen Zineb Ighirri and Hannah Moore (three apiece).

Not to be outdone was sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Peoples, last week's PacWest Defender of the Week, who, after making 13 saves to shutout CSUMB, came up big yet again with another eight saves and her second consecutive clean sheet. Dating back to the end of the season-opening match against Cal State Dominguez, Peoples has made 30 consecutive saves without allowing a goal, while her back-to-back shutouts are already tied for the sixth most in a single season in program history.

Peoples would be called on early to begin the match, coming up with a pair of saves before the Knights snatched the momentum with six shots over the next 10 minutes. ART U would go on to launch 10 shots by the end of the half, but Simpson goalkeeper Kiah Gridley was able to go stride-for-stride with Peoples as both made five saves. Even another 11 shots in the second frame couldn't secure the game-winner for the Knights, as Gridley would end her 90 minutes with 12 saves on the 21 shots faced.

Ighirri topped all shot takers with a total of six, while the trio of Moore, graduate student Melissa Wilson, and junior Brooklyn Morera chipped in three each. Seven different Knights put their looks on goal, with Moore and Ighirri leading the way.

ART U will look to get into the win column as it takes on PacWest foe Holy Names in non-conference action this Wednesday at 2 p.m.
