ART U Contending With West Region Mix At Bay Area Invite

2022 Bay Area Invitational (Rounds 1 & 2)

PLEASANTON, Calif. –
Starting its 2021-22 spring season at The Club At Ruby Hill on Monday against representatives from the three conferences of the NCAA Division IIWest Region, Academy of Art men's golf is currently 12th at the Bay Area Invitational hosted by Cal State East Bay.

The team's leader after the first and second rounds, junior Matthew Watkins logged four birdies for a 1-under-par 71 to start then followed with a 2-over-par 74 to end up one over at 145 tied for 11th overall. With others knotted at 39th overall, freshman Ralph Kho posted identical 4-over-par 76 scores for a 152. Two strokes separate freshmen Giulio Zanichelli (158, T61st) and Anson Pan (160, T68th) to round out the scoring Urban Knights.

Among team scores, ART U (615) is five strokes back of 11th-place Colorado Mesa (610) and seven ahead of Hawaii Pacific (622). Cal State San Marcos (571) is currently leading the pack by 14 strokes with Matt Pennington at a 10-under-par 134 by way of back-to-back 5-under par 67 scores.

Academy of Art will return to the links at The Club At Ruby Hill for the third and final round of the Bay Area Invitational beginning at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.
