Day One Of Pioneer Shootout Sees Knights In Third

Full Results (Round One)

ALAMEDA, Calif. –
In their first tournament action in nearly two weeks, Academy of Art women's golf turned in a solid opening round while at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout by combining for a 11-over-par 299 to end the day in third place. Leading the way was sophomore Jae Eun Park, closing with a 1-over-par 73 to tie for ninth place just three strokes off the lead.

It was a strong team performance throughout the day, though it was Park that was the most consistent with a total of 14 pars and a pair of birdies, remaining right in the hunt for the individual title as there are 10 golfers at 1-over-par or better. Trailing just behind is junior Iveta Posledni and freshman Tessa Geenen, as the duo carded matching scores of 3-over-par 75 to tie for 15th place. The pair each had similar rounds thanks to a trio of birdies, but Posledni ended her round with one more birdie than Geenen. Rounding out the scoring was junior Anahi Servin, sitting just one shot back of Posledni and Geenen after she finished round one at 4-over-par 76 with a total of two birdies.

The Urban Knights sit just seven strokes back of the team leader Cal State East Bay, as the tournament host Pioneers combined for a 4-over-par 292, while sitting between them and the Knights is Cal State Los Angeles at 10-over-par 298.

The Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout will conclude with round two tomorrow from Chuck Corica Golf Complex.
