2022 Hanny Stanislaus Invitational (Rounds 1 & 2)
TURLOCK, Calif. – Chasing the individual tournament title at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational is Academy of Art men's golf junior
Matthew Watkins, as he sits in sixth place after the first two rounds of action at the Turlock Country Club with a combined score of 3-under-par 141, while ART U as a squad comes in at 13th place 35-over-par 611.
It was Watkins at the front of the pack for the Urban Knights, as he shot even-par or better in both rounds, highlighted by a 3-under par 69 in the opening round that featured two eagles and a pair of birdies. He would follow that up with another eagle and two more birdies in the second round, as he leads all players in the tournament field with the total of three eagles while tied for the best combined score on par-five holes (7-under).
Trailing behind Watkins in scoring for ART U is freshman
Giulio Zanichelli in a tie for 41st place at 8-over-par 152, though he did turn in a 3-under-par 69 during his second round thanks to three birdies on the front nine and two on the back nine (six combined on the day). Tied for 48th place at 10-over-par 154 is freshman
Anson Pan, as he dropped an eagle while totaling five birdies over the course of his first two rounds. Rounding out the quartet was freshman
Jack DeBenedetti, as he slots in 78th place at 21-over-par 165.
Leading the individual portion is Conrad Brown of Western Washington, combining for a 6-under-par 138 thanks to his opening round score of 4-under-par to propel him into the lead. His effort has WWU in the lead of the team portion, as Western Washington has combined for a 3-under-par 573 through the first two rounds of play. The top Pacific West Conference team thus far in the tournament is Holy Names at 4-over-par 580, and Edvin Backstron of the Hawks rests as the top PacWest individual compeititor by sitting just one stroke ahead of Watkins at 4-under-par 140.
The final round of the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational commences tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. from the Turlock Country Club.
