Tournament Of Champions Concludes With WWU Over ART U

TURLOCK, Calif. – Out at Warrior Softball Field on Sunday, Academy of Art softball finished its 2022 trip to the Tournament of Champions with a 6-0 loss coming at the hands of Western Washington.

A run-scoring triple was followed by that runner coming in on an error as the Vikings went ahead 2-0 in the opening inning of the contest. After senior utility Alyssa Rasmussen and graduate student utility Nina Vallejos both got into scoring position thereafter, an unfortunate final out left the duo stranded.

The third frame began with a leadoff double by WWU and, after an eventual sacrifice fly, a triple elevated the designated home team to a 4-0 advantage. Western Washington's third two-run rally of the day came in the sixth and ultimately help close out the 6-0 victory.

ART U wraps up the Tournament of Champions 2-3 as part of its overall 6-31 record while WWU moves to 20-15 on the season. Senior catcher/infielder Lauryn Henderson, who hit .467 (7-for-15) with two home runs, four runs batted in, and six runs scored, was named to the 2022 Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team.

After a week off from competition, Academy of Art will begin its 12-game Hawaii roadtrip with series against UH Hilo (Apr. 11), Hawaii Pacific (Apr. 15), and Chaminade (Apr. 18).
