2022 Westminster Wasatch Invitational (First Round)

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – Consistency was key in the opening round of the Westminster Wasatch Invitational for Academy of Art women's golf, as a trio of Urban Knights turned in identical scores to put ART U in the middle of the field at seventh place with a combined score of 31-over-par 319. 

Among those tying for 27th place at 7-over-par 79 were the junior trio of Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn, Tessa Geenen and Valeria Ruiz. While Ruiz was the only two tally a birdie over the course of her around with two on the day, Rattanaprakarn and Geenen were steady on the back nine where they shot just 2-over-par. Also scoring for ART U was freshman Nicole Yang, collecting one birdie en route to a 10-over-par 82, which tied for 37th place. 

Sitting in first in the team portion of the tournament is the University of Tampa after they combined for 4-over-par 292, currently led by the top individual performer in Ana Maria Jimenez Rios at 1-under-par 71, as she was the only golfer to shoot in the red on the day. Academy of Art is the top placing Pacific West Conference team thus far, though just behind the Urban Knights are the Eagles of Biola in ninth place at 34-over-par 322. Familiar West Region foe Sonoma State sits halfway between ART U and the University of Tampa in fourth place at 24-over-par 312.

The 2022 Westminster Wasatch Invitational continues with the second round tomorrow, as Academy of Art will be among those with tee times beginning at 9:50 a.m. MT.
