ACADEMY OF ART SET FOR CCAA, NAIA OPPONENTS IN COMING WEEK
Playing its third and fourth California Collegiate Athletics Association foes of the season, Academy of Art men's soccer crosses the Bay Bridge for a weekend matchup with Cal State East Bay then travels north to meet Cal Poly Humboldt on Monday ahead of next Thursday's home contest hosting William Jessup.

KICKOFF
Saturday, Sept. 10 out at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward, ART U and CSUEB are set to kick off at 11 a.m. then it will be a noon start to the Monday, Sept. 12 pairing of the Urban Knights and Lumberjacks at College Soccer Field in Arcata. Paul Goode Field then awaits the Thursday, Sept. 15 matchup between Academy of Art and WJU at 1 p.m. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (Apple App StoreGoogle Play Store) and on Twitter & Instagramas well as "Like" the Urban Knights on Facebook for score updates, videos, and recaps.

KNIGHT WATCH
Jose JJ CortezStill in search of its first win of the year through three matches, Academy of Art has fired off 26 shots with nine on frame. Though senior goalkeeper Davis King started the year off with a save on the first shot he faced, Cal State Dominguez Hills put up tallies in the seventh and 22nd minutes, with that 2-0 score holding firm for a Toros victory despite the Urban Knights launching four shots of their own in the second half.

Aiming to rebound against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the second half would see CMS add a pair of insurance goals before ART U was able to find the scoreboard for the first time this season, with a goal coming from the boot of junior midfielder Gilly Miller when he converted a penalty kick opportunity, the first attempt and conversion of his Academy of Art career. SF State was then able to come away with the win in the Knights' first home match of the year.

Miller paces ART U in both shots (seven) and shots on goal (three), though 11 more Urban Knights have all taken at least one attempt at the net, six of which made it on net. Between the posts, King has denied nine attempts on a total of 36 shots faced, with his best effort so far this season coming against the Toros when he produced four saves.

BATTLE OF THE BAY
Bookended by 1-0 wins over UC Merced and UC Santa Cruz, Cal State East Bay's 2022 campaign has seen losses come to Northwest Nazarene, Dominican, and Holy Names. It has been a particularly productive first five matches for Aaron Farnan who has three goals and one assist for a team-best seven points while Zavier Hajdukovich has played all 450 minutes as the Pioneers goalkeeper, earning 32 saves with eight goals allowed. Deuces are wild in the ART U/CSUEB historical matchup with the teams' current record sitting at 2-2-2.

JACK ATTACK
It was neither a win or a loss for Cal Poly Humboldt through its first three matches of the season as ties with Northwest Nazarene, Holy Names, and Hawaii Pacific led the Lumberjacks into a narrow loss to UH Hilo and a 7-0 win over Simpson most recently. Juan Perez currently holds the team lead in points (nine) with three goals and three assists while Edgar Gonzalez has added three goals and Dylan Tovani has four assists to his name. Playing all but 45 minutes in goal, Adrian Gallardo has posted 17 saves with five goals allowed. The Jacks are 5-0 all-time against Academy of Art.

WEEKDAY WARRIORS
It has been a little bit of everything for William Jessup thus far as convincing wins over Bushnell and Pacific Union, ties with Simpson and Antelope Valley, and a loss to UC Merced have all come in 2022. The Warriors, who will face Cal Maritime on Sept. 13, have been led by Diego Nunez and his four goals with three assists offensively while Gerardo Perez Plata has handled the majority of the goalkeeping work with 19 saves and one goal allowed in four starts. Meeting for the first time since 2017, ART U and WJU are tied at 1-1 historically.

KNIGHTS STRIKE POSTS TWICE, BUT GATORS CAPTURE VICTORY
Even though Academy of Art men's soccer had outshot its opponent SF State in the first half of the unofficial battle for San Francisco, including twice ringing the goal frame, it was SFSU that would come out on the victorious end of the matchup by a final of 7-0 on Sept. 2

LOOKING AHEAD
Just one more non-conference matchup, a Sept. 21 faceoff against Holy Names, remains before ART U begins PacWest action in Hawaii on Sept. 26.
