One Knight In Top 10 After Pioneer Shootout Day One

2023 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout (Day One)

ALAMEDA, Calif. –
Though rain played a part on the first day of the 2023 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout which resulted in an early stoppage of the second round, an Urban Knight is sitting inside the top 10 of the leaderboard as junior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn is currently tied for sixth with a current score of 5-over-par 99 while Academy of Art women's golf is 11th as a unit at 45-over-par 423.

The inclement weather made its appearance during the opening round, as action was well underway before a lightning forced a halt to the day and reduced the tournament from 54 to 36 holes. Once the first round got back underway, out in front for ART U was Rattanaprakarn who fired off a 4-over-par 76 that was boosted by a back-nine where she was 1-under-par with birdies on the 13th and 17th holes. Through five holes of the second round after starting on 17, she was just 1-over-par to hold her spot in the top 10.

Matching the two birdies from Rattanaprakarn was the freshman duo of Maddie Elias and Nicole Yang, starting with Elias who ended the first round at 9-over-par 81 after birdies on on the sixth and 10th holes. Meanwhile, Yang trailed shortly behind after she turned in a 12-over-par 84 thanks to birdies on the seventh and 15th holes. Elias remained 1-over-par through six holes of the second round to currently tie for 27th place, while Yang has dropped back into a tie for 62nd. Also tied with Yang is junior Valeria Ruiz, who shot a 15-over-par 87 in the opening round without a birdie.

In first place as a team is host Cal State East Bay, combining for an 18-over-par 377 through the round plus to lead by 10 strokes over second-place Point Loma, who is the current top Pacific West Conference team at 28-over-par 388. The Sea Lions boast one of the tournaments individual leaders in Alli Kim, who shares the lead along with Madison Murr of Cal State San Marcos at even-par 89. However, through just the first round it was Drishti Karumbaya of CSUEB that carded the best round with a 2-under-par 70.

The Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout will conclude tomorrow with the continuation of the second round beginning at 12:15 p.m.
