Jack Brown Memorial 2023 (Final Results)
LAREDO, Texas – Starting the day in a tie for sixth place, junior
Tessa Geenen dropped a few spots but was still able to manage a tie for 11th place with a final score of 13-over-par 157 to lead Academy of Art women's golf at the Jack Brown Memorial in Laredo, Texas, while ART U as a squad jumped one spot to finish in seventh place with an overall combined score of 78-over-par 654.
Starting on the eighth hole, Geenen steadied her day by notching a birdie on the 10th hole and remaining relatively level as she finished the back-nine at only 1-over. Geenen did her best to close out the front-nine upon her return, but concluded her day with only the one birdie to finish at 8-over-par 80 and bring her tournament total to four birdies (tied for fifth in tournament field).
Posting the best final round of the Urban Knights was senior
Jae Eun Park, who started her round on the 11th hole and and found a pair of birdies on the 13th and 17th holes before moving to the front-nine. While she also ran into trouble there, Park notched a birdie on the third hole before closing out the round with one more on the 10th hole, finishing at 2-under on the back-nine and carding an overall round of just 4-over-par 76, which is also the best round by an Urban Knight in the tournament. With her four birdies on the afternoon, she ended with five total for the tournament which was fourth in the field. However, she was still the third-place finisher for ART U as she tied for 37th place at 24-over-par 168, which was tied with junior
Valeria Ruiz who turned in a 7-over-par 79 (only 1-over on back-nine) to round out the scoring.
The second-place finisher for Academy of Art was junior
Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn, who was just outside the top 20 in a tie for 27th place at 9-over-par 163 after she concluded with a final round score of 8-over-par 80. She totaled just one birdie on the day.
Academy of Art finished just three storkes behind Biola, who ended as the top-finishing Pacific West Conference team in sixth place at 73-over-par 649. Winning the team portion of the tournament was West Texas A&M with an overall score of 38-over-par 614, leading second-place Texas A&M International by six strokes, with Alyssa Campbell of West Texas A&M also closing out the individual win at 2-over-par 146.
In two weeks ART U will return to the course, as the Urban Knights will participate in the Bay Area Invitational hosted by Holy Names from Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore, Calif. beginning on Monday, Feb. 20.
