2023 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout (Rounds 1 & 2)
ALAMEDA, Calif. – Both of the first two rounds of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout are in the books for Academy of Art men's golf, as the Urban Knights sit in 15th place as a unit with a combined score of 38-over-par 614, while junior
Allan Osornio is the top individual in a tie for 54th place at 4-over-par 148.
It's a crowded field for the Pioneer Shootout, as a total of 37 golfers are even-par or better through the 36 holes that were played on Monday from Chuck Corica Golf Course. For Osornio, he posted the best ART U round of the day when he turned in an even-par 72, dropping five birdies over the course of his round including three on the back nine where he was 2-under par. In total that gave him eight birdies on the day, which was tied for 16th-most in the tournament.
Next up for the Urban Knights was sophomore
Jack DeBenedetti in a tie for 76th place, who went a combined 10-over-par 154 with identical scores of 5-over-par 77 to tie for 76th place. While he did not record a birdie in the first round, he found two on the front-nine of his second round before making the turn at only 2-over, and finally ended his day with one more on the back-nine for a total of three. Behind him by one stroke was sophomore
Giulio Zanichelli in a tie for 80th, combining for a 11-over-par 155 that consisted of a 5-over-par 77 and a 6-over-par 78 with a total of three birdies (all in the first round). Rounding out the scoring was sophomore
Anson Pan, who is in 85th place after going 13-over-par 157.
Leading the team portion is Cal State San Marcos, as they combined to go 10-under-par 566 and hold a slight three-stroke edge over second place Simon Fraser at 7-under-par 569. The top finishing Pacific West Conference team is Holy Names, currently fifth after combining to go 3-under-par 573 thanks to the top individual in the tournament in Luke Dugger, who went 8-under-par over the first two rounds including a 5-under-par 67 in the opening round.
The final round of the 2-23 Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout will take place tomorrow with action beginning in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
