SAN DIEGO – Academy of Art women's tennis rode the momentum of four consecutive wins into Saturday's matchup with No. 20 Point Loma, but after barely outlasting ART U for the doubles point, PLNU picked up five wins in singles play for the 6-1 victory on their home courts.

Though the Sea Lions (5-3) secured the first doubles win on court two, the pairing of freshman Jessica Plazas and sophomore Erica Hellbe for the Urban Knights (4-2) evened things up with a 7-5 win over Arianna Audelo and Amanda Letzring in the first position. The doubles point was subsequently determined on the third court as junior Viktoria Leth and freshman Paulina Alvarez battled back from a 3-0 deficit to force the tiebreaker which PLNU ultimately won 7-6 (8-6).

Wins in straight sets in the second and third singles spots put Point Loma in front 3-0, but Plazas then got Academy of Art on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Arianna Audelo in the first position. The Sea Lions would go on to claim each of the final three singles matchups despite Alvarez gaining a set advantage with a 7-6 (7-5) win to start her faceoff with Rachel Whittington on the sixth court.

Now halfway done with its Southern California road trip, ART U next meets No. 4 Hawaii Pacific on neutral territory in Azusa tomorrow, Mar. 5, at 10 a.m.
