2023 Pacific West Conference Championship (Second Round)
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Round two of the Pacific West Conference Championship from Wigwam Golf Course saw Academy of Art men's golf start and close the day in fourth place, holding their spot on the leaderboard after they combined for a 20-over-par 308 on the day to bring their overall combined score ot 39-over-par 615.
Sophomore
Anson Pan posted the best Urban Knight second round, and he started his day blazing hot by earning a trio of birdies on the first, third and fifth holes. Though he ran into a bit of trouble on toward the ends of his first nine holes, he was still able to make the turn at 1-over before steadying his round with seven pars on the back nine alone (10 total) to finish the round at 4-over-par 76. Overall, that drops him down just a couple of spots into a tie for 13th place (started the day in 10th) at 7-over-par 151.
Just a stroke behind Pan is fellow sophomore
Giulio Zanichelli, who collected birdies on the second and 11th holes while splitting 12 pars evenly between the front and back nine en route to a 5-over-par 77. He sits in sole possession of 16th place at 8-over-par 152, while junior
Allan Osornio has kept a hold on his spot in the top-20 in a share of 19th place at 11-over-par 155 thanks to his second round of 6-over-par 78 with a single birdie. Rounding out the ART U scoring is
Jerah Venkaiya in a tie for 22nd place (13-over-par 157), as he collected a birdie while matching Zanichelli's round of 5-over-par 77.
Nationally-ranked No. 32 UH Hilo remains the team leader of the tournament at 3-over-par 579, combining for a 6-over-par 294 on the round, as the Vulcans have now pushed their lead to 11 strokes over second place Dominican (14-over-par 590). Though there is a share for the individual lead, both come from Hilo as Junsu Im and Andrew Otani are each 2-under-par 142 while third place Luke Dugger of Holy Names sits two shots back at even-par 144.
Tomorrow will be the conclusion of the 2023 PacWest Championship, with tee times for the first groups beginning at 7 a.m.
