#8 Vulcans Top Academy of Art, Hampton Saves Season-High

SAN FRANCISCO – Entering their first match of the season in Pacific West Conference play, Academy of Art welcomed in No. 8 UH Hilo to the Bay Area and Paul Goode Field on Monday. Having a successful and undefeated start to their season, the Vulcans continued to roll, defeating the Urban Knights by the score of 6-0.

The Vulcans wasted no time as the first half began, scoring in the fourth minute to take the lead early. UH Hilo would score three more times before halftime came, all being unassisted goals with two coming from Teani Arakawa. Throughout the entirety of the first half, the Vulcans controlled the possession, ultimately taking 19 shots in the opening period. In the first 31 minutes, however, freshman goalkeeper Kayla Hampton did well in defending the goal, collecting five saves in that time.

Hampton would go on to record 13 saves throughout the match, her season-high, and now ranks first place in the PacWest in saves per game with 7.5 per game and seventh in total saves (30).

In the second period, the Vulcans would tack on two more goals, bringing the score to 6-0. ART U would defend for 27 more minutes in the match and leave the Vulcans scoreless during that time frame. UH Hilo improves to 5-0-1 and 1-0-0 in PacWest play.

Freshman midfielder Ashley Tasev attempted a team-high three shots, a new season-high, with two on goal coming off the bench. This included a screamer towards the net in the 88th minute that was struck with quality power, but was saved by the Vulcans' goalkeeper. With the loss, ART U falls to 1-6-0 and 0-1-0 in conference action.

The Urban Knights will continue their homestand filled with PacWest play, next matching up against the Silverswords of Chaminade on Sept. 28 with a kickoff slated for 1 p.m. from Paul Goode Field.
