Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Glaab's Score Galore Ends In 2-2 Tie

SAN FRANCISCO – The first meeting of the season between Academy of Art men's soccer and Dominican was a tight contest, and the Urban Knights came back from a two-goal deficit to even the score in the second half. Newly added freshman midfielder Joey Glaab led the Knights to a 2-2 stalemate netting both goals for his first scores in his collegiate career in just his third career game.

Both of Glaab's scores came from flying headers off of corner kicks from redshirt sophomore midfielder Elvis Mensah and junior forward Alejandro Palos and now puts him in second in the Pacific West Conference rankings for total individual goals. The first goal came to be from the Knights putting on the pressure with two shots from Palos and senior midfielder Kendryx Soriano just minutes after Dominican's second goal and Glaab finally getting it to go in the 37th minute. The match was eventually tied in the 76th minute with a goal in the same fashion off a header taking a bounce and getting slotted into the bottom right corner. These scores would be two of four shots on goal that came from 11 total shots. Dominican recorded the same shot statistics with two finding the back of the net as well. The Penguins (1-1-1) and Knights (0-1-2) both currently sit among the top three teams in the PacWest thus far through non-conference action.

After sharing the conference title just last season with Biola, Dominican came into this early-season match with confidence, establishing a lead after a goal in the third minute from a Lex Bernier penalty kick. It was the Knights that had the momentum going into the end of play looking for their third goal with multiple quality chances including a through ball from redshirt senior forward Jossart Jodito that went between the legs of a Penguin defender towards Mensah that was inevitably blocked by the goalie.

Alejandro PalosGlaab became the third freshman in program history to record two goals in a single match, joining Emmanuel Onywera (2008) and Daniel Higa (2009). Glaab, however, is the fastest Urban Knight to achieve the milestone.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jaiden Brooks added two saves to his total putting him at fifth place in the PacWest Conference rankings. Brooks is one of three Knights who has played in every minute so far this year, which also includes Glaab and junior defender Chris Stokes.

The Knights return to the pitch on Sept. 11 when they host Cal State Monterey Bay to continue their homestand with a kickoff time set for 1 p.m. at Paul Goode Field.
