SMSU Spring Invitational Results (Round 1)

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – A crowded field made it through the opening round of the SMSU Spring Invitational hosted at Wigwam Golf Course on Monday, and with the action concluded, Academy of Art women's golf sits in fourth place with a combined score of 25-over-par 313. 

A duo of Urban Knights are out in front for the squad as freshman Chantel Tsai and senior Napat "Plern" Rattanaprakarn are currently in a tie for eighth after the pair finished with a 4-over-par 76 each with a total of three birdies among the two on the day. Both scored a birdie on Hole 15, and Rattanaprakarn contributed another on Hole 9. 

Not far behind the ART U leaders was sophomore Nicole Yang, just two strokes back with a 6-over-par 78 and in position to make a move to climb into the top 10 on the second day of action. In the middle of the pack within the field is senior Tessa Geenen as she currently sits in the fourth position for the Knights with her first-round 11-over-par 83 while Valeria Ruiz remains right there with her with a 12-over-par 84.

Western New Mexico rolled through the first round, shooting the best team score of 10-over-par 298 with a seven-stroke lead over second-place Missouri Western State. WSMU also contains the individual leader as well as the competitor in the second position, with Brooklyn Maes first with her even-par 72 as her teammate Taysea Powell remains close by with a 1-over-par 73.
