ART U Finishes 5th At SSU Invite, All Knights Improve

Sonoma State Spring Invitational (Final Results)

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Academy of Art women's golf climbed two spots in the team rankings on Tuesday at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational as they finished in fifth place overall while shooting 12 strokes better on the second day of action, and concluded the tournament with a 74-over-par 650. 

Graduate student Jae Eun Park finished with the team-lowest score in the tournament for the Urban Knights, maintaining her position on the squad from day one while bettering her score by three strokes. Park held a 15-over-par 159 by the invitational's end, climbing up two spots as she ended tied for 13th place. Shooting the same score as Park in the second round was freshman Chantel Tsai (6-over-par 78), whose score was the best on the day among Pacific West Conference golfers, as she finished tied for 16th place with her 17-over-par 161 overall. Shooting within three strokes of one another were sophomore Nicole Yang, senior Valeria Ruiz, and senior Tessa Geenen, who all improved on their second playthrough as well, making it all five members of the Knights seeing lower scores. While Yang finished with a 21-over-par 165 and Ruiz ended with a 22-over-par 166, Geenen climbed the most spots on the individual rankings today (10) on the squad as she shot six strokes lower compared to day one. 

With Cal State LA and Simon Fraser finishing with the same score (47-over-par 623), it would be CSULA that would win the tournament as a team by taking the tiebreaker. Kassie Muanyam of SFU won the tournament in the individual rankings, as her 7-over-par 151 took over Western Washington's Emma Worgum for first place by one stroke.

In one week the Knights will be back in action in Waimea, Hawaii at the PacWest Conference Championship, as the first round will begin on Apr. 15 at the Mauna Lani Country Club.
