Zanichelli Drives By Second Round Of NCAA Championship

Ending the second of three rounds off with a combined 5-over-par 147 through two playthroughs, Academy of Art men's golfer Giulio Zanichelli improved by a stroke to his first day, as the junior dropped a 2-over-par 73 on Wednesday at the NCAA Division II National Championship at the Orange County National Golf Center.

Knocking down two birdies on Day 2, Zanichelli did so at the end on each side of the front and back nine, sinking his two birdies on Hole 9 and Hole 18, both being Par 4. Zanichelli shot a more overall consistent round today, scoring par on five more occasions (12 total) than his first round while the Parma, Italy native also shot bogey three less times than he did in Round 1.

There is a new individual leader through the second round of action, as Wyatt Provence of West Texas A&M is on top after the first two days with his combined 9-under-par 133 and holds a three-stroke lead over second place Xavier Bighaus of Colorado Christian. As they were tied for first at the end of Day 1, Oklahoma Christian stormed ahead in the second round with their 9-under-par 275 today and 16-under-par 552 overall as they now hold a nine stroke lead over second place West Florida and Colorado Christian.

Zanichelli will close out his 2023-24 campaign with the final round of the NCAA DII National Championship tomorrow.
