Angelica (Terrel) Belligan joined the Academy of Art softball coaching staff as an assistant coach after beginning as director of operations in July 2021.
The Urban Knights' 2023 campaign focused on a "Brick By Brick" mentality with steady building every day as Academy of Art softball upset a nationally-ranked opponent, executed multiple doubleheader sweeps, achieved career milestones, and celebrated its seniors over the course of a 51-game journey. Highlighting the first week of the year was a
7-2 victory over eventual NCAA Division II Tournament qualifier No. 25 Sonoma State and twin bill sweeps thereafter came over
Menlo and
Holy Names. ART U would set a new program record with 14 triples during the year, led by six from new single-season and career record holder
Cailee Grayhorse-Pupecki. She and Audrey Allen would be named to the
All-PacWest Third Team by the season's end and they would both be among the 12 Knights who earned
Academic All-PacWest Team selections.
Belligan's first season on staff with ART U saw the Urban Knights able to play more than 50 games for the first time since 2018. The 2022 campaign was highlighted by dramatic late-inning victories including
two on the same day to start the Tournament of Champions, new program records such as
All-PacWest Second Team honoree
Lauryn Henderson becoming the program's career leader in home runs and walks, and a collection of eight Knights with
Academic All-PacWest honors.
Prior to ART U, Belligan could be found as the head coach for the 510 Pride Fastpitch 14U Select team. She spent time mentoring young athletes to help advance their softball careers with the Oakland-based organization since late 2020.
Familiar with the Pacific West Conference, Belligan previously served as an assistant coach for Notre Dame de Namur during the Argonauts’ 2020 season. Her responsibilities included developing practice plans, game strategy, and ultimately preparing student-athletes for all-around collegiate and post-college success.
After completing her career as a softball student-athlete for SF State, Belligan spent a summer abroad with Söder Softball in Sweden, working as both a coach and a player. Among her highlights with the club was competing in the Baltic Open on the Swedish All-Start Team against other National Teams.
A four-year catcher for SFSU, Belligan threw out a total of 17 would-be base stealers during her senior season. She began her coaching career while in college, guiding the Easton Elite 16U travel ball team in the North Bay. Belligan also spent one year working as a ticket office representative within the University of San Francisco Athletics Department.
Belligan earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology from SF State in 2018 then added her master’s degree in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco three years later.
