Arno Brewer begins his first year as assistant coach with Academy of Art University Men's & Women's Track & Field/Cross Country.
Coach Brewer has been involved in the sport of track & field since he was nine years old. Most recently splitting time coaching James Logan High School and Mission Valley Track & Field Club, his roots as a jumper harken back to his days competing for Richmond High School, Contra Costa Community College, and Cal State East Bay.

Coach Brewer was formerly the assistant coach in track & field at Berkeley High School and Berkeley Eastbay Track Club (1974-1984), specializing in sprints, hurdles and jumps. He then carried his jumping expertise to serve a valuable role at James Logan and Mission Valley. Coach Brewer is one of a select group high school coaches to coach eight California State Championship teams with those including the Berkeley High School Boys (1980, 81) , Girls (1974, 76, 81, 82, 83), and James Logan High School Girls (2006).
Among the numerous successful athletes Coach Brewer has guided are five national record setters at CIF State Championships, two national records in Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Championships, and two national records in the USA Track & Field Junior Olympic Championships. Brewer’s daughter, Ciarra, is the last of that aforementioned resume of athletes coached as she is the national sophomore record-holder in the Indoor triple jump (42-0.5) and carries an outdoor performance at 43-4.25 that came at the 2009 USATF World Youth Team Trials.Â
