St. George, UT – Meeting Dixie State almost month removed from their Bay Area matchup, Academy of Art fought valiantly in the opening set, but the Red Storm used a quick run to create momentum towards a 3-0 victory (25-22, 25-17, 25-19).

Set one was a battle the whole way through. After DSU got up 2-0, sophomore Melissa Brum's kills helped the Urban Knights rally back for a 4-3 lead. The Red Storm steadily worked their way ahead once again, this time 12-7, but ART U would not go away. Senior Brittany Ulmer put one away, Brum followed, and Ulmer then offered a service ace to close the gap to one point, however, an 8-4 push by Dixie State seemed to be the difference. Academy of Art rallied once more, using back-to-back kills by sophomore Emily Papale and Brum to come within one again, 22-21. DSU made the final move and won the set 25-22 on two kills by Kendahl Weiland.

ART U was off to a strong start in the second set with a pair of Papale service aces helping them go up 3-0, but the Red Storm responded with a 4-0 run. Another 3-0 Academy of Art burst was countered by DSU's 5-0 surge to go up 11-9. From there, Dixie State went to work by winning 13 of 16 points, creating separation for a 25-17 set victory.

The third set was up for grabs early as the Knights answered a 3-0 Dixie State advantage with three straight points of their own. Even until tied 10-10, the Red Storm proceeded to capture 11 of the next 13 points to take a 21-12 lead. ART U fought off three set points, but ended up facing a 25-19 final that awarded DSU the match.

For the now 9-11 Urban Knights (4-8 PacWest), Brum completed the night with 15 kills. Papale added 10 kills and eight digs. Smith contributed 26 assists and seven digs while senior Kanoe Irvine had nine digs.

Academy of Art returns home with one last match before a three-part trip to the Hawaiian Islands. This Saturday, Oct. 25, ART U faces Notre Dame de Namur for the second time this season, but the first in official PacWest play.
