Authoring quite a bit of history at the Texas Relays, Academy of Art track & field's Juvonna Cornette emerged with a new NCAA Division II record in the 1600m sprint medley relay, tied the NCAA DII 4x200m relay, and captured the new ART U record in the 100m dash as well.
Cornette began by delivering the fastest 100m time by an Urban Knight with an 11.43 on
Mar. 29, putting her third in NCAA DII this season and second out of a 93-sprinter field that featured numerous NCAA DI competitors. That same day, the Interior Architecture & Design major joined Toni-Ann Lindsay, Lauryn James, and Lina Hanich in setting a new NCAA DII 1,600m sprint medley relay record at 3:53.00, surpassing the legendary combination of Minnesota State's Makayla Jackson, Rose Cramer, Denisha Cartwright, and MaKenna Thurston for the top spot. Additionally, Cornette went 3:48.55 as part of that same quartet in the 4x400m relay for the squad's second Outdoor Nationals provisional mark and also teamed with Darria Matthias, Lindsay, and James in posting the Knights' fourth Outdoor Nationals provisional 4x100m relay mark, 45.80, through just four meets to date.
The final day of Texas Relays action on
Mar. 30 had Cornette combine with Lindsay, James, and Matthias in tying the fastest 4x200m relay in NCAA DII history with a collective 1:34.87 performance which incredibly matched the effort of Minnesota State's Denisha Cartwright, Makayla Jackson, Rose Cramer, and Ja'Cey Simmons also from two years ago. ART U's mark was a new program record by more than four seconds and put the Urban Knights seventh of 10 overall slightly behind BYU (1:34.72) and Clemson (1:34.78) but ahead of Lamar (1:35.67) and Pittsburgh (1:37.72).
