2024 Texas Relays Results (Day 1 & 2)
2024 Stanford Invitational Results
Academy of Art track & field spent Friday in two different locations, achieving multiple new program records while competing against plenty of NCAA Division I talent in both the Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational.
AUSTIN, Texas – Numerous Urban Knights relay squads were in fittingly action at the Texas Relays on Friday inside Mike A. Myers Stadium with NCAA DII Outdoor Nationals provisional marks for the women's 4x100m as well as both the men's and women's 4x400m along with a new 100m program record and top time in the country coming for
Juvonna Cornette.
Cornette absolutely lit up the track in the 100m dash, delivering a new ART U record of 11.43 which elevated her to first in the country. Second in the field of 93 on Friday, the Interior Architecture & Design major bettered the previous top time by 0.07 seconds while
Lauryn James added her best mark of her career with an 11.61 across the finish line. James took fifth in the competition as well as NCAA DII also as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier and now holds the third spot in Academy of Art history.
Both Cornette and James also teamed with
Darria Matthias and
Toni-Ann Lindsay to notch the Knights' fourth Outdoor Nationals provisional mark, 45.80, through just four meets to date. The quartet's second-fastest time of season had them in front of competition from NCAA DI schools such as New Mexico State (45.81), Pittsburgh (45.86), and Kent State (45.92). From that group of four, Lindsay, James, and Cornette also combined with
Lina Hanich to turn in ART U's second Outdoor Nationals 4x400m provisional time of the year (3:48.55). That same quartet would collectively set the NCAA Division II 1,600m sprint medley relay record at 3:53.00, surpassing the legendary combination of Minnesota State's Makayla Jackson, Rose Cramer, Denisha Cartwright, and MaKenna Thurston for the top spot.
On the men's side,
Ajani Ince matched his 100m dash personal record of 10.38 from less than a week ago, securing second place only to Fullerton's Dominic Gates in a heat that also featured competitors from North Texas and Texas A&M-Commerce. Ince put himself in the upper tier of the 109-sprinter field, taking 24th overall before authoring the third leg of Academy of Art's 4x400m relay along with
Shareez Hamm,
Omodiaogbe Oboh, and
Josh Marlin. At 3:12.70, the four posted the program's second Outdoor Nationals provisional qualification of the year. In addition, Ince,
Emmanuel Ajiroba, Oboh, and
Vaughn Lacour worked together to post the 10th-fastest 1,600m sprint medley relay time in NCAA DII history with a 3:24.71 mark.
After finishing 51.79 in second in his 400m hurdles heat (seventh of 39 overall) in the event's opening round on Thursday, Marlin returned for final on Friday. Seven of the nine competitors he lined up with were NCAA DI talent and Marlin would better his mark from the day prior alongside them, going 51.56 to claim sixth overall.
In her first official long jump mark of the season,
Marie-Jeanne Ourega debuted at fifth in the nation with a 19-7 (5.97m) distance on her second attempt. The Communications & Media Technologies major would finish the competition just two inches from making the final round though still ended well in front of the Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifying standard.
STANFORD, Calif. – Two Urban Knights were in action in the Stanford Invitational on a rainy Friday at Cobb Track & Angell Field and, after
Erine Collard contested the 400m distance, it was
Katharina Goetschl who highlighted the meet with another new ART U record in the 3000m steeplechase.
Competing in the event for just the second time this season, Goetschl bettered 11 others in her section (including multiple NCAA DI runners) with a time of 10:25.49 to break her own program record by nearly three full seconds. The race, which also featured Western Washington's Ila Davis (10:11.97) and Chico State's Marissa D'Atri (10:14.41), saw Goetschl settle in at third in the country as an Outdoor Nationals provisional qualifier once again.
The Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational will both conclude tomorrow.
