Laie, HI—In game one of their Hawaiian road trip, the Academy of Art University faced off against the number two seated BYU Hawaii on Monday afternoon. The Seasiders wasted little time and scored a goal in the first six minutes of play. They added on to their early lead by scoring again three minutes later. The Urban Knights were unable to match the Seasiders' dominating offense, and after BYUH scored once more in the last fifteen minutes of the game, the Urban Knights ended up losing with a final score of 0-3.
The Seasiders had control of the game from the get go. Not only was their offense dominating, but their defense was able to keep the Academy of Art University from having a shot in the game, let alone a goal of their own. The Urban Knights were outshot by BYU Hawaii 22-0.
Urban Knights' sophomore goal keeper Solveig Barnes came up big for her team. Not only was she tested in the early minutes of the game, but was continuously pressured by the Seasider's offense throughout the match. Barnes allowed three goals and posted two saves in the first half, and five in the second for a total of seven saves on the day.
BYU Hawaii's Natasha Aiono had three shots and one goal, Margaret Sekona had five shots and one goal, and Sadie Simon had two shots with one goal in the game. Ten total Seasider players had shots in the game.
With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 1-13-2 overall and 1-7-2 in conference, while BYU Hawaii's record improves to 12-3 overall and 9-2 in conference. The Urban Knights play next on Wednesday, October 28th. They are set to take on Chaminade University at 1:00pm (4:00 PST).
