Four Knights Earn PacWest Honors, Maru Captures Second Runner of the Week Title

has been selected for the Pacific West Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week. This honor comes for his 34th place finish at the 2009 Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. Three other Urban Knights, junior Geoffrey Cheruiyot as well as sophomores Daveson Marindich and Simon Mutai, were all chosen for the Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Oct. 5, for races contested on Oct. 3.

led Academy of Art University for the fourth consecutive race with his 24:59.70 time on the 8k OSU Cross Country Course. He crossed the line in 34th place amongst eligible runners and 35th overall out of the full 245 participants. Although it was not a new personal best, Maru's performance good enough to help AAU finish in 16th overall ahead of seven Division I programs.

In the same race, Marindich took 67th place in terms of eligible runners with a time of 25:49.  Marindich was the second Knights finisher while Cheruiyot was the third with his 108th place finish in a time of 26:45.70. Coming in fourth for the Urban Knights was Mutai who completed the race in 130th place (27:26.80).  This is the third selection to the PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll for Marindich, the second for Mutai, and the first for Cheruiyot.
