Women's Basketball Opens with William Jessup University

Game # 1
Nov 20, 2009 - 5:30 PM
AAU Urban Knights vs. William Jessup Univ.
Rocklin, CA – Activities Building

OPENING TIP:
The Urban Knights start their season with a road match against William Jessup. The Knights also opened last season up with the Warriors and finished the season 1-1 against WJU. Sporting a brand new team and a full roster the Urban Knights hope to be a much tougher match up than they were last season.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Urban Knights play their first six games on the road this season. Following their trip to Rocklin, CA on Friday Nov 20, AAU travels to fellow PacWest opponent Dixie State Colleges' gym to take part in their Thanksgiving Classic, where they will play Fort-Lewis College and Pittsburg State.

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS
William Jessup has already played in six games this season and is currently 3-3; they earned their third straight win over UC Santa Cruz on Nov 17. They opened their season in a convincing fashion as they cruised to a 94-60 win over Westminster College on Tuesday Nov. 17. Freshman guard Ashley Rose is leading the Warriors in scoring; she is currently averaging 13.67 ppg and scored a team high 22 points in their game against Oregon Institute of Technology, Cassie Davidson is next on the list with 9.67 ppg.

RECAP OF URBAN KNIGHTS inaugural SEASON
Despite a 6-19 record and fielding one of programs youngest and smallest [in numbers] squads, head coach Lindsey Yamasaki and the Academy of Art University women's basketball team raised plenty of eyebrows with their heart and fast pace level of play.
The Urban Knights return three players who saw significant minutes last season, Lorraine Etchell, Sondra Stilwell, and Caprice Hall. All three returners lead the team in scoring with Stilwell leading the pack at 14.1 ppg, Etchell with 10.6, and Hall with 9.5. AAU also returns a post player, Jasmine English, who sat out their first season due to injury.
