FIRST GAME VICTORY:
Academy of Art University (1-0) opened their 2009-10 season last Friday night when they traveled to Rocklin, Ca. to take on William Jessup University (3-4). The Urban Knights were led by Junior forward Verity Peets who recorded 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the team's 75-48 win.

Peets who came to AAU from Idaho State University showed her strengths against the Warriors as she shot 7-12 from the floor and 6-7 from the free-throw line. “She stepped into her role and did a phenomenal job proving her ability to herself and to the rest of the team” Coach Lindsey Yamasaki said.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Following the Urban Knights' trip to St. George, UT AAU will head up to Redding, CA  where they will take on Simpson University in a non-conference match. The Knights then travel to Washington State for a two game road stint where they will battle St. Martins University and the Central Washington Wildcats.  All before playing in their first home game of the season which will be at Kezar Pavilion on Dec 11 versus Holy Names University.

SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
Fort-Lewis College is 6-0 thus far in their season. The Skyhawks, however, sustained a loss in an exhibition match-up with Pac-10 Division 1 opponent University of Arizona on Nov. 5, 60-75. They followed the loss by besting Northern New Mexico University 120-46, Dixie State College 68-54, and Midwestern State College 82-54. Allison Rosel leads the Skyhawks with 13.5 ppg, while Lauren Haugen and Katie Mcakey both add 11.3 and 11 ppg respectively. Haugen also has the most three's made (13) and is second on the team in 3pt percentage, she is shooting 40% from behind the arc (13-32).

SCOUTING THE GORILLAS
Last season the Gorillas finished third in the MIAA and made it to the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament before their season was ended by Washburn. The Gorillas opened this season on Nov. 15 with a 70-69 win over No. 12 Central Oklahoma. They have since struggled to find success on the road and have dropped their last two matches going into the game with AAU. Senior point guard Maya Onikute leads the Gorillas in both scoring and rebounding with 12.7 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game.

After leading 24-19 at the half, the Urban Knights recorded 51 points in the second half to pull away from the Warriors and finish the game with a field goal percentage of 43.75. AAU dominated on the boards, grabbing 46 rebounds compared to 28 for William Jessup University and notched 34 points in the paint.
