Reflecting on the Road: Despite having a rocky road trip where the Urban Knights went 0-3; sophomore goal keeper Solveig Barnes received honorable mention in the Pacific West Women's Soccer rankings for the week of September 14th. Barnes had 13 saves and over 180 minutes of action. She dropped a 2-0 decision at Biola and a tough 1-0 contest at Menlo. Between those two games she produced a .812 save percentage. The women most recently lost a heartbreaker to Notre Dame De Namur in double overtime.
Home Sweet Home: The Urban Knights return home after a long road trip. Still looking for their first win of the season, they will hope to turn things around on their home turf. They are steadily making progress and it is still early enough in the season to see a dramatic change.
Scouting Notre Dame De Namur: After losing 2-3 to NDNU this past Saturday; the Urban Knights will look to reverse their fate against the Argonauts this coming week. The Urban Knights scored their first goals of the season against NDNU and even took the game into overtime. They battled throughout the match and lost in the final few minutes of the second overtime. NDNU out shot the Urban Knights 24-9. The Argonaut's Sally Olsson and Samantha Paetz both had strong games against the Academy of Art University. Combined they had a total of nine shots and three goals against the Urban Knights.
Scouting Grand Canyon University: As of 9-8-09, the Antelopes are ranked 8th in the West Region of the NSCAA Division II national rankings. Although having a slower start to their year, they have faced some tough competition to begin their season, including the 2008 National Champions, Seattle Pacific University. They currently have a record of 3-3 overall and have a 0-1 conference record. The Antelope's two top scorers are Kaylen Jackson and Kayla Poe who each have two goals for a total of four points. Junior goal keeper Mileena Buchei was named PacWest player of the week for September 9th and has started every game for GCU. Buchei has allowed seven goals and has seventeen saves on the season.
Scouting Dixie State: The Red Storm started their 2009 season with a 1-0 victory over CSU San Bernardino, but had since won another game until September 19th. They too have faced top Division II teams including the #10 nationally ranked UC San Diego. Dixie State's current record is 2-3 overall and have a 1-0 conference record. They have three players Mikala Wilkes, Kelsey Tesoro, and Lauren Minnick who are tied leading the team with one goal and one assist for a total of six points. The Red Storm finished the 2008 season with a 9-3 conference record.
Looking Ahead: The Urban Knights begin a seven game home-stand starting on September 24th. They will face all conference teams during the home-stand which will stretch across the next four weeks. They kick off their return home by facing Notre Dame De Namur University on September 24th at 1:00pm at Boxer Stadium in San Francisco, CA.
