Box Score

San Francisco
, CA --- The Urban Knights hosted the Red Storm of Dixie State College tonight at UCSF Bakar Fitness Gym. Both teams came into the contest after dropping their last games. Dixie State lost their first conference match to Notre Dame de Namur, 61-64 on Jan. 14, while AAU dropped a hard fought battle to a tough Hawaii Pacific University on Jan. 7, 54-73. With the loss AAU drops to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Dixie State, however, improves to 3-1 in conference and 7-6 overall.

In a half that saw five ties and four lead changes the Urban Knights kept up with a tough Dixie State team who has only dropped one game in conference play. It was AAU who jumped out to an early 10-8 lead. But Dixie State would go on to take the lead back over the next two plays. Midway through the half the Urban Knights saw themselves down by as many as 10 points, 28-10. AAU, however, did not give up as Ashleigh Frazier connected from deep with Lorraine Etchell for a lay-up which sparked an 8-0 run by the Knights, and gave them a 31-29 lead over the Red Storm. The Academy of Art would go into the locker down one. AAU caused the Red Storm to turn the ball over 17 times but also turned it over 16 times of their own.

Much like the first the second half was close, with no team leading by more than four points until late in the game. The Urban Knights went up 46-42 to start the second half. But, Dixie State started to widen the gap late in the game when Jessie Ingraham hit one of her five three pointers to bring the Red Storm up by five, 66-61. The Urban Knights did not have an answer for the offensive power of Dixie State, three players fouled out of the game leaving the Urban Knights with a much less chance of taking the game. They ultimately dropped the contest 77-69.

The Red Storm were led by Jessie Ingraham who finished with a game high 33 points, shooting 10-18 from the field, 5-6 from behind the arc and 8-10 from the free throw line. Deanna Daniels also helped the Red Strom, scoring 11 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and nabbing five steals. Veronica Siqueiros was the third DSC player in double figures with 15 points.

The Urban Knights had four players finish with double figures in scoring for the second time this season. Lorraine Etchell tied her season high for the third time with 20 points, shooting 2-6 from behind the arc and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. Jessica Nolan was close behind as she finished with 16 points, three assists and one steal. Sondra Stilwell and Verity Peets each chipped in with 10 points apiece; while Stilwell added eight assists and Peets had a team high eight rebounds. As a team the Urban Knights shot 47% for the game and 35% from behind the arc, and were perfect from the line. The amount of turnovers was sure to hinder the Urban Knights play as they finished the game with 29.
