Phoenix, AZ – The Urban Knights (8-16, 4-9 PacWest) were on the road Thursday when they took on PacWest's leading top scoring team, Grand Canyon University (17-7, 11-2 PacWest). Although sophomore
Lorraine Etchell notched a team high 14 points and was an impressive 7-of-11 from the field, the Urban Knight could not generate enough offense to defeat the Antelopes and fell, 75-58.
The first half started with Grand Canyon jumping out to an early lead. The Urban Knights hit 11-of-28 of their shots but they could not stop the Antelopes who knocked down 64 percent of their shots including 75 percent from the three point line.
In the second half, AAU's bench outscored Grand Canyon 12-4 and the Urban Knights were able to capitalize on the boards hitting 12 second chance points. To finish the game, the Urban Knights put together a 15-3 point run, but the offensive surge was not enough to complete the comeback.
Senior Sondra Stilwell added 12 points for the Urban Knights. She shot 50 percent from the floor including 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc and dished out two assists. Junior Jessica Nolan pulled down a team high five rebounds and scored six points in 34 minutes.
The Urban Knights were unable to shut down Antelopes' Kia Gibson and Samantha Murphy. Gibson finished with 26 points, while Murphy, who leads the PacWest in scoring, added 22. The two combined for 16-of-24 from the floor and 11 rebounds.
The Urban Knights will play their final road game Saturday February 27th when they take on Dixie State College of Utah. Tip off is set for 1 p.m. at Burns Arena.
