SCOUTING THE WARRIORS:

Cal State Stanislaus, who opened its season with a 7-11 loss to Fresno Pacific on Monday of this week, finished last season with a 31-21 record. In addition to being ranked No. 1 in the nation for two consecutive weeks in 2009, CSUS also sported a 24-7 home record, which ranks as the second best winning percentage in school history. Last year, the Knights and Warriors met for a doubleheader on Apr. 5, 2009 in which Stanislaus prevailed 15-6 in game one and 13-7 in the second matchup. Right-handed pitcher Eric Cendejas comes off a strong  campaign in which he led CSUS with a 1.80 ERA and a 4-1 record in 19 appearances. Although the Warriors lost their top seven offensive weapons from the previous season, catcher Seth Hudson does return after posting a .309 batting average, 17 walks, and 13 runs batted in 34 games last year.

2009 SEASON RECAP:
The inaugural year of Academy of Art University baseball may have seen AAU finish with a 0-30 record, but three different Knights had batting averages over .300 and the team combined to hit 14 home runs overall. 2009 was highlighted by two separate games in which sophomore infielder Chris Vargas and senior catcher Florentino Ubungen as well as several close games down the stretch. Academy of Art endured repeated rainouts throughout the first half of its season and while AAU could not pull off a victory, the Knights had two different games in which the offense exploded for 14 runs. Late in the season, Academy of Art University faced Cal Poly Pomona, one of seven CCAA opponents that year, and the Broncos would only narrowly escape with wins in the series' final two games.  Freshman left-handed pitcher/outfielder Zach Mexicano paced the team with a .386 batting average, but it was Vargas who hit the most home runs (6) and scored the most runs (19) in addition to registering the most hits (33) and RBIs (22) on the team.

LOOKING AHEAD:
After the four-game series versus Cal State Stanislaus, AAU will stay on the road and travel to Irvine, CA on Feb. 12-13 to take on Concordia University (CA). The Knights play two games at Eagles Field before a three-game series against Fresno Pacific University (CA) the follows the next week.
