Knights Come Up Short Against Hilo

In their last game of the homestand, the Academy of Art University faced off against the University of Hawaii Hilo Wednesday morning. The Knights got off to a slow start in the first half. With a quiet offense, the Urban Knights had to rely mainly on their defense. Hilo managed to score late in the first half and ART U was unable to catch them. Despite a second half rally, the Knights lost with a final score of 0-1.


The Vulcan offense came out strong early in game. However, ART U's defense was able to keep them off balance for a while. Hilo put up eight shots in the first half and the Knights stopped all but one. In the 39th minute of play, Hilo scored the first and only goal of the game.

The Urban Knights really turned things around in the second half. After a shot-less first half, the women came out attacking. The Knights put up five shots in the half. Despite their strong efforts, the women were unable to make a come back and fell short to the Vulcans 0-1. Throughout the game, ART U had three shots on goal while Hilo only had two.

Junior Morgan McKnight, sophomore Tanner McCandlish, and freshman newcomer Magda Torres each recorded a shot on goal in the game for the Urban Knights. Junior Megan Bucci also stood out in the game with two shots on the day. In her first game this season, freshman Hana Klimek played all 90 minutes in the net for her team allowing one goal, and posting one save.

Hilo's Linsey Poulsen scored the lone goal in the game. She also had two shots, including one on goal. Emily Lambert received the assist on the goal, along with recording one shot in the game.

After the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 1-3-1 overall and 0-3 in conference, while the University of Hawaii Hilo's record is at 2-4-1 overall and 1-3 in the PacWest. The Knights will now head on the road for five games in Hawaii. They play next on Saturday, September 25th against Hawaii Pacific University. Game time is set for 3:00 pm (HST, 6:00 pm PST) in Kailua, HI.
