Laie, HI – In the second game of their Hawaiian road trip, the Academy of Art University faced BYU Hawaii on Monday afternoon. The Seasiders are a very strong team, which challenged the Urban Knights. However, the Knights came out playing tough and it showed. The Urban Knight women kept their opponents quiet through the first half, but unfortunately could not hold on for the win. BYU Hawaii, who has not allowed a goal on the season, defeated ART U with a final score of 5-0.
The Urban Knights really stepped up their level of play in the game. The Seasiders are tough competitors in the PacWest, known for a powerful offense and solid defense. But the Knights showed no fear when they stepped onto the field. Their defense held their own throughout the first half as sophomore goalie Melissa Co recorded eight saves in the half. It was ART U's defense that kept their team in the game, but unfortunately that would not be enough to stop the Seasiders in the second half.
In the 50th minute of play, BYU Hawaii was able to find the net to score the game winning goal. Despite the Knights' best efforts, they could no longer hold their opponents. The Seasiders scored four more times in the game to take the match 5-0.
Junior Megan Bucci was the only Urban Knight to post any shots in the game. She had two shots, both which were on goal for her team. Co had a great game in the net for ART U. She recorded eight saves in the first half, and four in the second, for a total of 12 saves on the day.
For the Seasiders, Natasha Aionno led her team offensively with two goals in the game. Emily Mearns, Lauran Wang, and Kaci McNeal each recorded one goal in the game; with Mearns' goal being the game winner. Four other Seasiders recorded assists in the game.
After the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 1-5-1 overall, and 0-5 in the PacWest, while BYU Hawaii's record improves to 4-0-1 overall, and 3-0 in conference. The Knights continue their road trip with a game against Chaminade University on September 29th. Game time is set for 12:30 PM (HST) in Honolulu, HI.
