Anchorage, AK -- Up against its toughest opponent of this non-conference season, ART U women's basketball sustained a 90-53 defeat Saturday night at the hands of Alaska Anchorage, the #10 team in the latest ESPN/USA Today Division II Top 20 poll. An early run by the Seawolves led to a double-digit first half lead and the Urban Knights were unable to rally back on this occasion inside the Wells Fargo Sports Complex to wrap up the AT&T Hoops Classic.

Lorraine Etchell put ART U up 2-0 to start, but Alaska Anchorage opened the game on a 17-6 run. The Seawolves made 8-of-9 free throws in the first four minutes, limiting ART U's ability to push the ball. Junior guards

Jordan Rogers then each buried 3-pointers in an attempt to stop UAA's early burst. By the third media timeout at 7:37, the score was 29-14 with Anchorage still continuing to produce at the foul line.
When given a chance to get out and run, the Urban Knights responded to the tune of a 7-2 first half push sparked by a layup from freshman center

Ashley Lucian also provided a punch off the bench, scoring five points in her first two minutes on the floor. However, the offense continued to flow for UAA and the AT&T Hoops Classic host would lead 54-32 at halftime.
In the second period, the Seawolves would try to further their advantage, but the Knights were able to work their way to the free throw line to fight back against the deficit. Though after an 11-4 run midway through the half, Alaska Anchorage remained firmly ahead for the remainder of the night and eventually won 90-53.
For the second consecutive game in this tournament, sophomore forward
Alisa Griggs posted a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds), working hard in both halves for ART U. Biesek added 10 points of her own along with three rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Etchell contributed eight points while Coleman chipped in eight points and six rebounds off the bench. Academy of Art exits the AT&T Hoops Classic with a 3-4 overall record this year.
Haley Holmstead, the Seawolves' leading scorer, posted a game-high 26 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the floor. Gritt Ryder added 14 points along with eight assists while Kaylie Robison grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Alaska Anchorage improves to 7-2 on the season.
The Urban Knights now set their sights on their first home game of the season which comes next Wednesday, Dec. 14. ART U welcomes Saint Martin's to Kezar Pavilion for a 7:00 PM tipoff.
