Griggs Secures Her Third PacWest Weekly Selection

PacWest Release

Phoenix, AZ --
After posting the first two double-doubles of her Academy of Art University career in the AT&T Hoops Classic this past weekend, sophomore forward Alisa Griggs captured her third Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 honor of the year. Versus Alaska Fairbanks, Griggs went for a career-high 14 rebounds and 16 points on Friday, then followed that performance with 10 and 10 against #10 Alaska Anchorage on Saturday. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Dec. 12 for games played Dec. 5-11.

In a hard-fought matchup against Alaska Fairbanks, Griggs had one of her best second halves of the year. After leading the team with eight points and five rebounds in the first half, the Milwaukie, OR native nearly had a double-double in the second period alone. The Urban Knights sliced into a UAF second half advantage and it was Griggs who converted a layup with 5:44 left, dropping the Nanooks' lead to just two, 58-56. Though Fairbanks would go on to win, the sophomore forward had registered her first double-digit rebounding performance in her career, posting 14 boards which ties her for fourth in ART U history for a single game.

“Alisa is a hard matchup down in the post because she's so quick and has a great mid-range game. She's tough to guard,” head coach LaNay Larson said. “I thought she worked really hard on the boards when she was in there."

Griggs was at it again the following evening against a daunting Alaska Fairbanks opponent. Though the Seawolves established an early advantage, Griggs went on to amass a game-high five offensive rebounds with two determined halves. She came away with 10 points and and 10 rebounds to lead the way. In addition, Griggs would complete the AT&T Hoops Classic with three blocked shots, two assists, and one steal across a pair of contests.

For the week, Griggs averaged 13.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. She ranked fourth in the PacWest in rebounding for the week as well as 10th in scoring. The Milwaukie, OR native now leads the Urban Knights in both categories (14.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and, after going 10-for-22 (45.5%) from the field this past week, she holds the highest field goal percentage among regular ART U starters.

Griggs earns her third PacWest Weekly honor and the fourth in her career.
