Griggs And Rogers Bring Home PacWest Weekly Honors

PacWest Release

Phoenix, AZ --
During a 1-1 week highlighted by Academy of Art University's 67-62 victory over Saint Martin's this past Wednesday, Dec. 14, sophomore forward Alisa Griggs and junior guard Jordan Rogers were both selected to the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. Griggs averaged a double-double for the week while Rogers had her two best shooting performances in addition to ranking fourth in the conference in rebounding. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Dec. 19 for games played Dec. 12-18.

Griggs continued to build on her career sophomore season with two more strong outings offensively and on the boards. She stuffed the stat sheet in the win against Saint Martin's, scoring seven points, grabbing nine rebounds, blocking three shots, dishing out two assists, and notching one steal. The Milwaukie, OR native had several key rebounds to support the Knights' inspired second half comeback. Then, against Cal Baptist to start PacWest play, Griggs logged her third double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) in the last three games.

For the week, Griggs averaged 10.0 points,10.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game. She ranked second in the conference in rebounding across the two games played by Academy of Art. The sophomore forward remains ART U's scoring leader (13.2 points per game) and currently ranks fourth in the PacWest in rebounding (8.3 rebounds per game).

Rogers' week was highlighted by a 21-point, 13-rebound performance against Cal Baptist on Dec. 17 which set season-highs in both categories. Rogers started off the week by scoring seven of her 11 points during the second half ART U comeback at home against Saint Martin's. The junior guard capped an 18-3 ART U run with a 3-pointer to put the Knights up by 10 with 4:52 left. Then, in the start of conference play on Saturday, Rogers scored in double figures in each half. She knocked down three 3-pointers in the first period, was instrumental in another second half Academy of Art burst, and collected 13 rebounds as a guard.

“Honestly, I thought Jordan was the only one who was consistently playing well throughout both halves of the game [against Cal Baptist],” head coach LaNay Larson said. “We've got to give her the ball more because she's a little too unselfish right now. But she really did a great job rebounding. For a kid we've had to limit in practice [due to injury], she comes in and does a good job on both ends of the court for us. She has a very high basketball IQ and her value doesn't always appear on the stat sheet.”

Over the two contests, Rogers averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. She ranked fourth in the PacWest in rebounding for the week and eighth in scoring. Her shooting percentage for the week was an impressive 52.4% (11-for-21) and she tossed in five 3-pointers (shooting 50.0% from beyond the arc) to rank fifth in the conference in that category.

Rogers earns her first career PacWest Weekly honor while Griggs takes home her fourth of the season and the fifth in her career.
