Urban Knights Defeated by #13 Dixie State College

The Academy of Art women's basketball team, led by a 21 point Verity Peets performance, was defeated by No. 13 Dixie State College, 103-57, on Saturday, February 12 at Burns Arena in St. George, UT. The Urban Knights fall to 7-14 (5-7 PWC) on the season as the Red Storm improve to 18-2 (8-1 PWC).

"We won't see another team like this for the rest of the season," said Head Coach Lindsey Yamasaki. "Despite the loss, we know that tonight's game has prepared us for our last four games."

The Urban Knights, fresh off a hard fought battle with No. 10 Grand Canyon University less than 48 hours prior, jumped out of the gate with tremendous intensity. Nicole DeRosier started the contest with a 3-pointer to put ART U on top first. The Academy of Art women held a slight lead over the Red Storm through the first six minutes of play. DSC tied the score, 14-14, with 13:53 remaining on the clock, then took the lead from ART U and never looked back. From there, the Dixie State Red Storm used a 12-0 run to distance themselves from the Knights. DeRosier and Lorraine Etchell each knocked down back-to-back three's to bring the score to within single digits. However, the Urban Knights went the final 7 minutes of the half scoring just four points and the Red Storm offense extended their lead to 26, 52-26, as the half closed.

The Red Storm shot the ball well in the first period, shooting 20-of-35 from the floor (57.1%) compared to ART U's 9-of-32 (28.1%). Verity Peets led the Urban Knights through the first half with 10 points and two rebounds.

The second half saw the Red Storm continue to build their lead over the ART U. Although the Urban Knights' shooting percentage went up in the second half it was too little to late. The Red Storm out scored the ART U by 20 points in the second period and secured the 103-57 victory.

Five Red Storm players reached double figures in scoring, Breann Hill led the way with 32 points. She was 10-11 from the field and perfect from long range (4-of 4) and the free-throw line (8-of-8). Johnna Brown finished the night with 22 points and six assists. Sheila Adams added 14 points and five assists. Gabriella Rodriquez contributed 11 points, and Erica Carlson chipped in with 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocks. The Red Storm were 95.1% from the free-throw line connecting on 22 of 23 attempts.

Verity Peets led the way for ART U. The senior finished the game with 21 points, one assist and two steals. DeRosier was next on the team with 14 points and five rebounds. Jessica Nolan and Alisa Griggs each added eight and seven points respectively. Madeline Martin dished out a team high five assists.

The Urban Knights return to the Bay Area for a two game homestand. First on the list is Chaminade University on February 17th, followed by BYU-Hawaii on February 19th.
