Kicking-off the season: The Urban Knights ready for their season opener when they head to Southern California to partake in the Cal State San Bernardino Tournament this upcoming weekend. The team will first face Minot State University on September 3rd, before battling against tournament host CSU San Bernardino on the 5th. Both games will be held at CSUSB at Premier Field.

Starting off on the Right Foot: ART U has been training hard over the past few weeks and has geared up for this challenging tournament to begin the 2011 season. The team has added eight new faces to the roster to compliment the solid 12 returners. With added roster depth, and fresh new talent, the Knights are on their way to becoming a major force in the PacWest Conference. The team will look to make a major impact in the tournament this weekend, before heading directly into PWC play the following week.

Knights to watch: The Urban Knights are returning their top four scorers from the 2010 season. Hannah Emmett returns for her sophomore campaign after leading the team with five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points last season. Senior Megan Bucci is also back for more action in 2011, after recording two goals and two assists for her team last year. Senior Emi Sullivan who scored two goals, and junior Jasmine Sharpe who recorded one goal and three assists, are also returning to help lead the Knights to an even better finish this year. Look for these four among others to take the Knights to a whole new level in 2011.

Scouting Minot State University: In 2010, the Beavers finished with a 9-7-3 overall record and competed in the Independents League. In 2011, Minot State has entered their provisional year with the NCAA, and will compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference starting in 2012. The Beavers have a full roster consisting of four seniors, four juniors, seven sophomores, and nine freshmen. After graduating their leading scorer last season, the Beavers will look to senior Tara McPartland to lead things this year. Last year she finished with five goals and two assists for 12 points, had 23 shots on goal, and played in all 18 games. Also returning is Tatyanny Griffiths who followed McPartland last season finishing with four goals, and one assist. This will be the first match up between the Urban Knights and Beavers.

Scouting Cal State San Bernardino: The Coyotes begin their official season on September 1st when they take on PacWest members Dixie State. They then continue by hosting their own tournament just a few days later. Last year, the Coyotes finished with a 9-8-1 overall record, and were 7-8-1 in conference play. San Bernardino has an experienced team composed of 10 seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores, and 10 freshmen. The team is led by junior Jani Carmona who had a tremendous year for her team in 2010. Carmona finished with 15 goals and six assists, for a total of 36 points while playing in all 18 games. Senior Kristina Gomez, the second highest scorer for the Coyotes, also returns after posting four goals and three assists for 11 points last season. Junior Tiffany Mallick saw the majority of the time in the net last year starting in all 18 games with over 1,580 minutes played. Mallick tallied 78 saves, while finishing with a 9-8-1 record. This will be the first match-up between the two teams.

Looking Ahead:  After the tournament, the Urban Knights come back to San Francisco to host Dominican University for the start of PacWest Conference play. The game is scheduled for September 10th at 12:00pm. The game will be held at Treasure Island/Yerba Buena Island (California Ave & Ave H).
