San Bernardino, CA –
In their second and final game of the CSU San Bernardino tournament, Academy of Art University went head-to-head with tournament host Cal State San Bernardino on Monday morning. The Knights were again off to a strong start, letting their defense do most of the work. But early in the first half, the Coyotes scored to take the lead. Although the Knights' defense was solid, their offense couldn't get things going, and they ended up falling to CSUSB with a final score of 4-0.

The Coyotes jumped on the board early, scoring in the first few minutes of the half. But the Urban Knights quickly adjusted and stepped up their defense. After the early goal, the game went back and forth as ART U tried to tie things up. Despite the tough defensive charge by the Knights, their offense could not seem to get anything going to overcome the early game deficit.

Even with valiant efforts by the Knights, CSUSB scored twice more in the first half, and once more in the second to keep the game out of reach for the Urban Knights. ART U kept fighting both defensively and offensively throughout the match, but they were unable to switch the momentum to their side. The Knights were outshot by their opponents 14-2, and after a tough 90 minutes of very physical play, ART U ended up dropping the game to the Coyotes with a final score of 0-4.

"I am proud of the team's abilitly to change our defense while on the road," said Head Coach Aileen Nasypany. "It was small mistakes that allowed San Bernardino to capitzlize on bad touches."

Freshman Jessica Bibby was again in the goal for the Knights. She played all 90 minutes, and recorded two saves in the first and two in the second for a total of four saves on the day. Her record now sits at 0-2 on the season.

Senior Emi Sullivan, and freshman Haily MacDonald were the only two Knights to record a shot in the match. Seeing as the game relied mostly on defense, MacDonald's shot missed wide at the end of the first half, while Sullivan's shot also missed wide in the last few minutes of the game.

For the Coyotes, Casey Hirsh scored the first goal (her second of the season), while Tambra Awai, Diana Enriquez, and Carissa Kutowski each recorded one goal in the game. In the net for the team was the duo of Tiffany Mallick and Chelsey Jones. Mallick played the majority of the game seeing 63 minutes of play while recording the win; and the two combined for a shutout.

"With six underclassmen starting, we are continuing to find our stride as a group," added Nasypany. "We will use this week to clean up the little things and get ready to battle Dominican at home."

After the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-2 overall, while Cal State San Bernardino's record improves to 2-0 overall. The Urban Knights next return to the bay for their first home game of the season. They are set to host Dominican University on September 10th. Game time is scheduled for 12:00pm and will be played at Treasure Island.
